Your Mind Is Full. What Is Feeding It?

Your Mind Is Full. What Is Feeding It?
Before the day has properly begun, our minds can already feel crowded. Messages need answers. Headlines ask for attention. A worry from yesterday is waiting right where we left it. In the middle of all that, opening the Bible may feel like one more task to squeeze in. But it can become a place to pause, listen, and let God speak into the thoughts we carry.
Loving God with our minds includes the patient work of understanding. We can bring our questions, notice what we have overlooked, and admit when a familiar passage is still unfamiliar in practice. In 2 Kings 22, Josiah’s response to the recovered Book of the Law shows how deeply hearing God’s Word can unsettle and redirect a person. Sometimes the beginning of renewal is recognizing something we need to change.
You do not have to become an expert before you begin. Read slowly enough to notice. Return to a passage rather than hurrying to finish. Ask for help when a sentence puzzles you. Knowing God is a lifelong pursuit, and there is room to keep learning alongside others. The goal is a growing understanding that reaches into our decisions, relationships, and willingness to respond.
Questions to carry into your week
• What receives most of your attention, and how does it shape the way you see your life?
• When did a familiar Bible passage last prompt a new question or a change in you?
• What would help you read with curiosity instead of feeling pressure to have every answer?
One practice for this week
Choose one chapter of a Bible book and return to it each day this week. Before reading, ask God for understanding. Keep a brief note of what you notice or want to ask. Let that single chapter become a conversation you stay with, rather than a task you finish.
At Hope Church, learning to know Christ and sharing His love with our neighbors belong together. If you would welcome a place to grow and ask questions, learn more at https://hopeclayton.org/ or join us for Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m., in person or online.
There is a place for you at The Little Church With A Big Heart. We hope to see you soon!
